Rod Stewart is his own worst enemy. The dude was best as the (not so) pretty crowd-facing vocalist to bands with chops (Faces, Jeff Beck), and has even put out of slew of really brilliant pieces of pop music (Maggie, Young Turks), but the depth (or lack thereof) in his discography is his own undoing: that shit is fucking terrible. Brilliant chart topping pop songs, but nothing of substance below that. I'd call him a chanteuse, but I'm led to believe that the dude has actual chops himself, which makes it even more baffling.
Also, the fact that he turned himself into Barry Manilow-lite in the 90s/00s didn't help his image with anyone under the age of 40.
I still maintain this is a brilliant (if not questionable) piece of pop music:

good breakdown. Yeah him in the 90s/00s was straight heinous but the man was a force for an awful long time in music.

70s Rod Stewart was brilliant, for sure. The dude clearly had something, as he had no shortage of talented people lining up to work with him.
Man, getting old is a bitch; it really ruins your music!

Well, AC/DC was ruined the moment Bon Scott died, so that whole trajectory tanked well before age became a factor.

I like Brian, and I think "Back In Black" was an excellent album, but I respect your difference of opinion.

I respect your opinion and your dutiful handling of a willfully inflammatory comment
